At age 1 when children move to cow's milk (or goat milk by pediatrician recommendations only) they should be drinking whole milk as it is 4% fat content. They need this for brain development.Due to high rates of child obesity the current recommendation is to move children to skim milk at age 2. They no longer need the milkfat and all the calcium is still in the skim. Please do not put kids on soy milk.it comes from a plant and lacks calcium that is needed for bone and muscle development. That half hour of exercise is enough. Of course, the more the better. I think you have to concentate more on calories. Cut out sugar, fried foods, fast food, and snacks in general. Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Lean fish (tuna in water is fine), and chicken and egg WHITES. In order to maintain a weight , you multiply that weight by 15. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, you would maintain by eating 100X15=1500 calories. So figure out your target weight X 15, and that's how many calories you want to eat a day. An hour of exercise a day should be plenty. There are 3500 calories in a pound. (UH-OH, now you have to get out the calculator). Only eat when you're hungry;not bored. If you're about to cheat, go brush your teeth. WILLPOWER, girlfriend! You can do it ! I know it!! :)

I worry about following videos at home because it's easy to slack off or not do things properly. You should be exercising 4-5 times a week. It really depends on your weight and height. Weight loss should be gradual. You should normally lose 1-3 pounds a week. Losing a pound may not be obvious, but if you keep at it for a month you could drop 5-10 pounds. The more overweight you are the faster you will lose the weight. The more lean you are the harder it is.

Who ever the idiots that say diet and fitness is the only way to do this ? Have you had a baby? Not everybody's body bounces back. I had a 12 pound baby nine years ago and have 10 inches of loose skin from it. I do agree that a tummy tuck is not for everybody and not an alternative to a good diet or fitness. But not everybody can go to the gym and eat right and have a six PAC. So who ever posted the diet and fitness quote get a life and get real. You probably have muscle, which lipo will not get rid of. PLaying sports would increase muscle mass, not fat cells.
If your big arms are from playing sports, lipo won't do anything. Lipo removes fat, not muscle and surely your arms didn't build up a bunch of fat from playing sports.

45 minutes of cardio 4-5x a week, dont do more, theres no real point, for the people who disagree, go ask any real bodybuilder, they will tell you the same thing.Do weight training also, it will help you reach your goal much faster. You can do it for 45 minute sessions 4x a week also.If your going to do both at the same visit to the gym, do the weight training first, and then the cardio.
a min of 30 mins of cardio and another 30 on toneing...but doing anything more then what you are doing now will only help you with your goals...

I agree with JavaJoe. I have adapted a healthy lifestyle over the past year. I eat no more than 1500 calories a day, the healthier it is, the more you can eat, and I get about 8 hours of cardio in a week with 2 days of weight training. I have lost an average of about 6 pounds a month. Drink lots of water; not only is it good for you but it helps you feel full. Also watch your sodium intake. Check out all of the new 100 calorie snacks also. One last tip, they have always said to eat 5 smaller meals a day...it really works. Carbs are ok as long as they are complex carbs like whole grains. Try Weight Watchers, it is the best diet plan for LONG TERM weight loss. There is no magic. Just have to get off your butt and do it.

i'm not fat, i only like to keep my body in good shape, but I don't want to go to the gym everyday. any suggestions?

If you only want to hit the gym three times a week, try a circuit routine. You can google for one if you don't know what that is. They are great. You get weight training in and it keeps your heart rate up so you get a cardio workout too. In between circuits, just take nice walks around the neighborhood or park.
You can meet your needs by going to the gym 3-4 days a week. For most people there body cannot handle training seven days a week. I would concentrate on total body workouts complete with cardio, but finish your session with cardio. Also I would work out between 45 minutes to 1 1/2 each session.

Try muscle toning exercises. Do 3-4 sets of 11-15 reps to tone up the muscle. I suggest going four days a week, and weight lifting for about 25 minutes, and jogging for another 10-15.While lifting, lift to your max. Do not lift a light weight 15 times when you could have easily done it 30 times. Lift a weight that you can lift only 15 times at the most.Make sure your eating well. Eat a high carb meal like pasta or bread to give you energy to keep you going through the workout. I also suggest taking a bottle of grape juice with you to give you spurts of energy as well. Eat protein after your exercise so it can help repair that tore up muscle.Keep in mind you should stretch "good" before these activities. You don't want to end up straining something and going to the hospital and giving them your money (like they really need it).Good luck with your efforts.

How many times a week should you train your abs?

I do kickboxing, pilates, run and lift. I have my cardio down and pretty much the whole weight training thing. I don't have a clear answer though of how many times to train the abs -- for the most part mine are pretty strong but I know with consistency they would show more -- I watch my diet and all that --

well, just to let you know you can't spot reduce, which means if you need to work on losing weight in a certain area it doesn't work to just work that area to lose weight. You just have to burn the calories. but you can tone up and tighten,and about those squats, they might not add anything, but they will tighten you up, and you should do them until you can't do them no more, but still keep track. do like sets of 10, and just count the sets. it is easier to keep up with.
Well, you don't necessarily have 2 do squats to make your butt tighter. (but if you like doing them, to make them easier, keep your feet straight out in front of you.) but i don't do squats. I do this:
1: get into plank position(push up position but on your elbows with your lower arms making an upside-down V) hold in your abs so your butt doesn't sag
2: raise your right foot 10 inches off the floor. Hold for 3 seconds. return to plank position.
Do 10 reps, then switch legs and do 10 more. You will definitely feel it VERY quick!~And this not only tones your butt, it also tones your abs, arms, and quads, too!~

How many Smart Choice TV dinners should I eat a day?

I'm on a diet and if any of you are eating these or Healthy choice as well, how many a day should I eat that isn't going OVER BOARD and how many do you eat?Sometimes I eat 2 a day but there are days I have 3...what is the limit for you?

Just so you know, those meals are generally LOADED with salt and preservatives. Not to say I don't have them as a convenience now and then -- and I like them! -- but try looking at the portion sizes and applying that to home-cooked food. First ,Are you trying to get a sixpack or fourpack abs? Are you trying to get strong for something or just trying to look good?
Situps are generally the most useless ab exercise.
You have a complex group of muscles in your mid section.
Lets start with abs.
Rectus Abdominus is the long muscle on the front of your body. Sometimes people refer to lower and upper abs. It is all one muscle. You can learn to contract and isolate through control.
Internal and external obliques they work in side bends twisting and if you are not careful you can build them blocky and give the appearance of a thick waist.
Transverse Abdominals work like your natural girdle.
You should do exercise's working each of these groups individually.
(dont forget about your lower back) You must keep your body balanced.
You also must do cardio every day to burn your body fat so you will be able to see all your hard work.
Here is an example of a good beginning core routine :
10 minute warmup to start: bike, jogging in place, jump rope
Anything to get your heartrate and joints lubricated.
Next stretch quads (fronts of legs) hamstrings (backs of legs) hips ( your butt)
Baby plank Hold 5 breaths with 4/4 count
alternating superman
dying bug
roll like a ball
boat with bent knees
criss cross (known as knee to opposite elbow)
side planks Hold 5 breaths with 4/4 countComplete each exercise start with one circuit and build up to 5 complete circuits.
You can find information on all these exercise in a book or at the gym or on the net.belly button pulled in to spine( contract your lower abs like you need to pee) This not only protects your lower back but makes your abs nice and flat. The more control you keep the stronger you become.
Keep the sternum lifted and shoulder blades down the back and keep sides of your ribs long.
Now stretch and do not forget about the rest of your body. It all works together.
How old are you? And do you have any injuries?
Another note to add is takes about 18 minutes to start burning fat in cardio. Do this at the end of your routine so you have enough energy to complete exercises correctly.
I've been a trainer and therapist for 25 years.
try to do 50 situps 5 times a week and then if you can make that 100 a week. You will also have to get rid of every ounce of fat in your ab area so getting some extra excersice wont hurt. Also eat lots of proteins to help build your abs.
I couldn't really understand if you said you do 100 situps in a span of 14 days, but that's what i understood. If that's the case, i would suggest increasing the number per week. I would first try to lose fat, and then do like a hundred situps a day. Also do other abs excersises such as laying flat on ur back and lifting ur legs up to make a 90 degree angle. And keep your legs straight out.
You know what really helped me get in shape?
Doing a little bit ofe exercise every day.
Instead of going all out twice a month, invest 5-10 minutes daily in doing maybe 50 push-ups and 50 sit-ups each day in addition to the Core (which is when you put all your body weight on your arms and rest in a flat position for a few minutes)
I started seeing results after a few weeks, so by September, you should be very buff.

You'll only see your abs if you get the fat covering them off of you! And thats it. NO amount of crunches will get you a six pack. To get rid of fat you have to be in a caloric deficit via proper diet and exercise. Simple as that.
i dont know about u but a 1000 a day seems too much...i do 50-60 and do 30 min cardio on treadmill...cuz u gotta burn the fat coverin the abs then build up the muscle...ta da!

How many rotations/revolutions equals a mile on an elliptical machine?

It will vary depending on the siz of the machine. Same like working out the circumference of a circle. The bigger ther circle the bigger the circumference.Usually the machine will show you the distance travelled on it. So just count how many revolutions it take to go, for example 16 metres than time it by 100 something like that.
I don't know, but the machines usually tell you the distance, speed, calories burned, etc.

How many reps should I do while lifting?

Doing three sets, I asume thats pretty standard, how many reps should I do for strength training? What about if I was trying to get cut, how many reps than?

To increase strength do 4 - 6 reps and to build bigger muscles do 8 - 12 reps. Big muscles burn more calories and to get cut you need to burn more calories.
If you want to build up your muscles you slowly increase your weights and do less reps, more weight, if you want to define and tone you do more reps, less weight. Just slowly build yourself up. A little burn is ok but don't over do it. And make sure to drink lots of water =0)

Ive read heaps of info about how many sets to do and all that, an American magazine said do 4 sets of 10 reps on a few chest exorcises, is that 40 reps all up?
When I was at school (in Australia) they taught us a set is 12 then 10 then 8 reps.
The American info doesnt exactly say that.
I dont think I could do 4 sets of one exorcise the way I know to do em. but 40 reps all up sounds a bit more realistic.

A set is pertaining to doing one particular exercise, such as tricepss curls. When you do a "set" it can be broken down into reps. So, you're going to do a set of tricep curls, depending on if you're going to do pyramiding, you can do the first set at 10 lbs. with 12-15 reps. The second set you would increase the weights to 12 lbs. and do 8-12 reps. The third set increase the weights to 15lbs. and do 4-8 reps. With that being said, 20 years ago that's how you were trained in weights. Now it's completely different. They have found that you'll get the same results by doing one set with the maximum amount of weight you can handle up to 15 (depends on your trainer), if you can do more than 15 reps, you need to increase the weight. You don't even have to do up to 15. One set is all you need to do for each muscle group. Your weight training can be done in 30 minutes. Get a personal trainer to help you. Times have changed and you shouldn't have to do more than one set. If you're trying to become a body builder, that may/probably is different.Your abdominals you can do unlimited amount of reps.Good luck.

you can design your workout based on the results you would like to have i do supersets i link 3 excersizes together and do lighter weights and very high reps so in one set i do 3 excercises 20 reps each thats 60 reps for each set X 4 sets

it all counts toward your daily total of fruits and veggies. unless you happen to be allergic to them there is no reason why eating the entire 6 oz container should be bad for you. eat as much as you want.

I agree cardio is better for this sort of thing. It depends on whether you need to lose fat or gain muscle though...I presume by flabby you have some fat to lose, in which case sensible dieting (nothing high in fat, sugar or even carbs) combined with at least 30-60 minutes of cardio (bike-riding, even walking if you can't run but make it fast, swimming) a day and some sit-ups and crunches.
Contrary to popular belief, you can NOT do situps and expect to flatten your flabby belly. You need to lose weight everywhere to lose weight in your belly. The only way to do that is cut your food intake (less fat and carbs) and up your cardio a lot.Even if you can't run, you can walk on the treadmill. Put it at 8-10 degree incline and speed of 2.5-3 mph for a minimum of 30 minutes a day and you will see great results!Good luck!

Shhh.. I'll tell you a somewhat healthy way to fast but keep it a secret. First, make sure you have a good multi vitamin, like the GNC brand one for women. Also, buy a green powder drink like Kyo Green or buy a vege-supplement pill like Spirulina. You still need decent nutirion and the greens give you energy. Also, try a B-vitamin pill (any B that isn't used by the body is urinated out so you can enjoy your Bs). Believe it or not, you need to consume fat to lose fat (buy healthy fats, like flax seed oil or fish oil in pills).In the morning, take your multi-vitamin, a B-pill, your healthy fat pills, some green supplment, and have a little bit of whole-grain carbs (carbs are the body's energy and you need at least a little bit of energy). Im trying to get a good routine going and I've heard you should mix up the areas you work over different days.
Im not trying to get REALLY big, but gain some bulk and a lot of strength.
Is it ok to do this routine 5 days a week?
Bench press - 3 sets
Incline dumbell press - 3 sets
Seated shoulder raise - 3 sets
Standing curls - 3 sets
Pull ups - 3 sets
Sit ups - 3 sets.
And some cardio thrown in when I can be stuffed, like and hour on the bike or jogging for 30-40 mins.
