How much calories should you eat if you trying to lose 40 pounds?

Answer:
Eat between 1200 - 1500 calories a day and exercise for an hour 6 times a week.Keep it up and you can lose about 10 pounds a month.
Never go below 1,200 calories a day. Eating less than this can cause your body to go into starvation mode.
Exercise and it really won't matter. But it all depends on your diet and body type. Watch what you eat. Avoid junk and eat good foods.
What I suggest is to use this calculator:

Put in your goal weight and it will tell you how many calories to eat to maintain that weight. That way you will lose weight and once you have lost the weight you will be used to eating that much, anyway so maintaining is no problem!
How much you want to lose, has no real impact on how many cals you should eat a day, unless you are trying to lose the weight by a deadline.Drop your calorie intake a bit, but not too low (not under 1200 a day). When I want to lose weight, I eat around 1300 - 1500 cals a day. Add some regular exercise to burn the calories faster, and you'll be on your way to saying goodbye to that 40 lbs.Good luck!
im not sure how many calories you should consume but a great sight that has some good ideas and tips for losing weight is http://www.hungry-girl.com/ .This sight is packed with fun ideas, tricks and low calorie foods
I agree with JavaJoe. I have adapted a healthy lifestyle over the past year. I eat no more than 1500 calories a day, the healthier it is, the more you can eat, and I get about 8 hours of cardio in a week with 2 days of weight training. I have lost an average of about 6 pounds a month. Drink lots of water; not only is it good for you but it helps you feel full. Also watch your sodium intake. Check out all of the new 100 calorie snacks also. One last tip, they have always said to eat 5 smaller meals a day...it really works. If I only eat breakfast, lunch and dinner I tend to over eat at those meals. Good luck to you.
